Create your first teammate
Last updated July 2026 · ~4 min read
A teammate is a named AI meeting participant you stand up once and reuse across meetings. This guide walks through creating one, connecting your agent, and sending it into a meeting.
Before you start
You will need a MeetCrew deployment bound to your Microsoft Entra tenant, tenant-admin access, and — optionally — the endpoint for the agent you want the teammate to front (Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry Agent Service, an OpenAI-compatible endpoint, or a custom webhook). A teammate can also run identity-only and have a backend added later.
1. Create the deployment
In the admin console, choose Create deployment and give the teammate a display name and a wake word — the name people say out loud to summon it in a meeting. This identity is permanent in participants’ audit records, so pick something clear.
2. Choose a character and voice
Pick one of the twelve original characters or design a custom avatar, then choose an Azure AI Speech voice and a speaking style. You can change any of this later without losing the teammate’s memory.
3. Connect your agent
On the Backend binding step, select your provider and supply the endpoint. Credentials are stored as Azure Key Vault secret references — never raw secrets. MeetCrew fronts the agent; it does not replace it.
4. Authorize and go
Authorize the meetings the teammate may join, then invite it. It appears as a named, disclosed participant, introduces itself as AI, and answers when addressed by its wake word.
Availability: MeetCrew runs in the US (excluding Illinois) and Canada in v1. A teammate will not join if the organizer’s tenant is out of scope.
